Citizens Fire Academy

The San Antonio Fire Department Fire Training Academy is proud to announce another Citizens Fire Academy to start February 9th 2023. Weekly classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm 

There will be one week when class will be held on a Saturday morning for CPR training. This class is to help inform participants on the way the SAFD operates and to educate citizens about fire safety.

 

This class is not designed to train a person to be a firefighter nor qualify the participant to have a job as a firefighter with SAFD or any other department.

You must be at least 18 to participate.

Some of the things that we will be covering during the Citizens Fire Academy are:

•Ride out with and experience the Fire Operations Division

•Become CPR certified

•Take a field trip to the Emergency Operations Center and Fire/EMS Dispatch Center

•Tour the SAFD Fire Training Academy campus

•Put on the gear that firefighters wear

•Learn to use a fire extinguisher and then extinguish a small, controlled fire

•Demonstration of different fire apparatus that the SAFD operates

•Opportunity to extinguish training props

•Experience zero-visibility in the fire training building

•Operate a thermal imaging camera in zero-visibility.

This is intended to be a fun and informative class. Please come and join us and Learn more about the operations of the San Antonio Fire Department and how we accomplish our duties on a daily basis.
