Can I get in trouble for giving someone Narcan if I genuinely believed they were having an opioid overdose? No. Texas has what is called a "Good Samaritan" law or act, which means that if you are acting in good faith, trying to help someone, you cannot get in trouble for trying to assist.
The Texas Good Samaritan Law protects individuals from civil liability when voluntarily providing emergency care in good faith without compensation. It encourages bystanders to act during emergencies—such as providing first aid or calling 911—without fear of lawsuits, provided their actions are not reckless or willfully negligent.
